World’s ‘most advanced’ touchscreen AIS transponder launched
New Zealand’s Vesper Marine, a manufacturer of marine safety products, has unveiled what it claims is ‘the world’s first and only touchscreen Class B AIS transponder’ – the WatchMate Vision2. Based on smartAIS technology, the system combines navigation sensor data, GPS and AIS information, provides alerts, and triggers alarms in the event of hazardous situations. Unlike traditional IAS transponders which only send and receive AIS signals, the manu facturer claims that its new product can continuously calculate crossing situations, generate alerts for critical navigation actions, alert crew members to a dragging anchor or changes to wind speed, direction or water depth whilst at anchor, and activate alarms in a man-overboard situation....
