Methanol moves ahead as a marine fuel

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is to develop a new standard for methanol as a marine fuel and a standard for methyl/ethyl alcohol fuel couplings. The move, welcomed by the Methanol Institute (MI), a trade association, follows an invitation from the International Maritime Organization and a decision taken at the 99th session of its Maritime Safety Committee (MSC). Members of the MSC had agreed at their meeting that methanol as a marine fuel already meets the requirements of the IMO’s 2020 sulphur cap and could provide a viable fuel option for vessel operators in the future....
