Coldharbour Marine will present its ballast water treatment system (BWTS) Sea Guardian™ at SMM, based on inert gas generator (IGG) technology. Coldharbour’s in-voyage treatment ensures that there is no re-growth risk. Re-growth is a problem because if invasive organisms survive the initial treatment process, they can multiply through the course of a long ballast voyage, which may result in ballast water discharge standards not being met. The company estimates about 500 VLCCs, about the same number of LNG carriers, and about 1,400 Capesize bulk carriers could benefit from its technology....
