Digitalisation of the integrated bridge
INS Digitalisation in ships’ bridges is rapidly proceeding. The wheelhouse has turned into a digital control centre, especially on newbuildings. Raytheon Anschütz takes a look at new developments – including integrated navigation systems (INS) – that make bridge operation safer, easier and more efficient.
Conventional interconnection on bridges has traditionally meant that many single units are connected through multiple cables and interfaces. However, unclear data distribution has turned out to be a risk and a cost driver when it comes to servicing or updating the system. What’s more, the overflow of inconsistent information and superfluous alarms further hamper safe decision making and increase high stress levels on the bridge. To overcome these issues, bridge navigation systems have gone through massive modernisation. On the contemporary bridge, single navigation devices transform into network participants and the integration of data creates many new useful functions.
