New simulator centre in the Netherlands
The Maritime Research Institute of the Netherlands (MARIN) is commissioning a new research facility, the Seven Oceans Simulator centre (SOSc), where ‘the sea of the future’ is to be simulated in large spherical moving simulators. The new facility was due to be opened by His Majesty King Willem-Alexander at the end of May. The opening programme was scheduled to be held in the Shallow Water Basin where ship models are tested. Experts from MARIN, the country’s Coast Guard, Search & Rescue Institution KNRM, and maritime service providers were due to discuss maritime operations in congested waters and scope to involve seagoing personnel in bridge design....
