Work begins on new series

März 2017 | Redaktion

The keel-laying of the new cruise vessels Mein Schiff 1 and the start of production of Mein Schiff 2 were the focus of a celebration held recently at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. Present at the event were the CEOs of both the cruise line TUI Cruises, Wybcke Meier, and the shipyard, Jan Meyer, as well as invited guests and employees. Meanwhile, the last ship in the first series, the 295m-long Mein Schiff 6, is having outfitting completed prior to delivery. At 315m, the new Mein Schiff 1 and 2 will be 20m longer than earlier vessels. The extra space has facilitated a substantial redesign and inclusion of various new features. The 115,000gt ships will have capacity for 2,894 passengers and a crew of 1,000; their diesel-electric propulsion systems will enable a speed of about 21 knots. They are due for delivery in spring 2018 and 2019.
