Newbuild ferry to switch from LNG to batteries

Buquebús | Incat Tasmania has been asked to investigate the possibility of converting a RoPax ferry on order for Buenos Aires-based Buquebús from LNG propulsion to a battery-electric setup. The 130m-long vessel, with capacity for 2,100 passengers and 226 vehicles, is due for delivery in 2025. The partners admit there are challenges ahead but, when commissioned, the ship would be the largest, lightweight, zero-emissions ferry operating anywhere in the world. Robert Clifford, Incat Group chairman, commented: “The customer wants this to happen, Incat wants this to happen, and whilst there are matters to be finalised, I am extremely confident that Incat can deliver this ground-breaking ship....
