‘Lack of clarity’ around wind propulsion, says Bureau Veritas

Despite the accelerating take-up of wind-assisted propulsion systems by a number of shipowners and operators, classification society Bureau Veritas (BV) claims that there is a lack of clarity surrounding wind propulsion technologies’ contribution to reducing carbon emissions on ships. International regulatory bodies need to recognise and support wind propulsion as a credible means of reducing carbon emissions, it said. BV highlighted the issue as it launched a new report on wind power for ships.
