‘Lack of clarity’ around wind propulsion, says Bureau Veritas
Despite the accelerating take-up of wind-assisted propulsion systems by a number of shipowners and operators, classification society Bureau Veritas (BV) claims that there is a lack of clarity surrounding wind propulsion technologies’ contribution to reducing carbon emissions on ships. International regulatory bodies need to recognise and support wind propulsion as a credible means of reducing carbon emissions, it said. BV highlighted the issue as it launched a new report on wind power for ships. Its Wind Propulsion Technology Report describes the various technologies that are available and assesses their viability, as well as the various challenges that inhibit the adoption of wind propulsion systems at scale....
