No penalties for “early movers”
BALLAST WATER TREATMENT | At its recent 69th session, the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) made several decisions regarding implementation of the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments (BWM Convention), especially with respect to a new time scheme. It also rejected a proposal to penalise shipowners who have already installed a BWM system but fail to meet upcoming requirements.
