The EEDI with respect to performance monitoring
SPEED/POWER TRIALS | With implementation of the EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) certification, speed trials of newbuildings have gained new relevance. For the first time, classification societies are involved in speed tests. The following article by Dr Jan Wienke, project engineer for experimental investigations at DNV GL - Maritime Advisory, describes how speed/power trials are carried out and how performance monitoring data relate to the results of speed trials.
