Assessment of dual-fuel electric propulsion
MAN Energy Solutions and ABB have revealed a new Decarbonisation Cooperation agreement, signed at SMM in Hamburg, to cooperate on the development of dual-fuel, electric (DFE+) propulsion for LNG carriers and floating storage regasification units (FSRUs). The partners will work on integrating ABB’s Dynamic AC (DAC) technology with a MAN 49/60DF engine with the aim of maximising operational flexibility and reducing fuel consumption. The move comes at a key moment in global LNG fleet development because many ships in the existing fleet will fail to meet imminent carbon efficiency regulations by the end of this decade....
