New initiative to manufacture green heat exchanger
Alfa Laval and Swedish steel company, SSAB, have signed an agreement to develop and manufacture the world’s first plate heat exchangers using fossil-free steel. The companies are aiming to have the first device made with hydrogen-reduced steel ready next year. Alfa Laval said the initiative marked an important step in its carbon-reducing drive. The company is aiming to become carbon neutral by 2030. Steel production is energy-intensive and accounts for about 7% of the world’s carbon emissions. SSAB is developing fossil-free steel manufactured with HYBRIT, a new arrangement that replaces coking coal in steel-making with green electricity and hydrogen....
