Advanced ship energy calculation

April 2014 | Malte Freund, Alex Magdanz, Tim Jungnickel

SIMULATION LIBRARY Optimising ship energy efficiency for realistic operation profiles is a key topic in the shipbuilding industry. A simulation library has now been developed to provide a suitable tool for the enhancement of ship machinery. Called Ship Energy Systems, it enables users to optimise the machinery through variant analysis by means of an actual operational profile of the vessel and quantification of energy-saving potentials. Using a typical machinery arrangement of a medium-sized cargo vessel as an example, Malte Freund, previously working at FutureShip and now at Caterpillar Enegery Solutions, and Alex Magdanz and Tim Jungnickel, from ITI in Dresden, describe the library.
