Efficient transport for operation and maintenance of wind farms
OFFSHORE WIND FARM LOGISTICS Operators of offshore wind farms face many challenges, such as diverse transport needs, tough sea conditions, sudden changes in the weather and spontaneous failures. They must take all of them into account for planning safe and efficient maritime transport for operation and maintenance (O&M) tasks. Christian Herrmann, winner of this year’s DNV GL Wind Energy Award for young professionals, describes a practical approach to extensive comparison and evaluation of transport solutions for offshore wind farm logistics. It uses a method that considers current weather conditions and available means of transport.
