Research project aims to optimise SOV design
A three-year EUR 4.4 million research project, Nexus, led jointly by ARTTIC, a consultancy, and Rolls-Royce Marine has been established to develop new service operation vessel (SOV) designs for the offshore wind industry. As technology develops, wind farms are moving into deeper and more hostile waters which present extra challenges for SOV operators. Maintenance costs are therefore high and have a negative impact on the competitiveness of electricity produced offshore.
