Improved engine performance through two-stage turbocharging

September 2016 | Editor

MAN Diesel & Turbo | At a technical press seminar held in MAN Diesel & Turbo’s production and research facility in Augsburg, Germany, earlier this year, experts gave an overview of the company’s latest generation of turbochargers. Dirk Balthasar, head of turbocharger sales and promotion, pointed out that the Augsburg plant focused on production of larger-sized turbochargers and its facility in the Czech Republic on smaller ones, while the company’s plant in China served the Chinese market. In the Augsburg facility, which has twelve test beds of various sizes, MAN Diesel & Turbo is running serial tests of newly developed turbochargers and engines, including gas engines up to 20 MW. The company is currently engaged in various developments, the most important being the two-stage turbocharging project Ecocharge.
