New cylinder oil with high base number
A new two-stroke engine cylinder oil, Shell Alexia 140, has been officially launched by Shell Marine following receipt of a no-objection letter from MAN Diesel & Turbo. Its high base number (BN) provides protection against cold corrosion – a process in which water condenses in the cylinder and combines with sulphur dioxide in the combustion gases to produce sulphuric acid which damages the liner....
