Newbuilding, conversion and repair orders keep coming

February 2016 | Editor

SHIPYARDS | Despite the current tight market, Singapore’s maritime and offshore companies remain busy. There are currently more than 130 orders for newbuildings, including tugboats, tankers, jack-up vessels and semi-submersibles [1]. The majority of contracts have gone to Pacific Ocean Engineering & Trading Pte Ltd; Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd (Keppel O&M), which has also secured some major conversion contracts; and ASL Shipyard Pte Ltd. Besides newbuildings, a significant share of Singapore’s maritime industry is taken up with repairs and conversions. In this segment, Sembcorp Marine said it had broken the world record for the most LNG (liquefied natural gas) vessel repair and upgrade projects in a single year.
