Tidal analysis boosts outcomes for SEEMP tools
OCEANOGRAPHIC DATA Industry forces are converging to a point where traditional weather routing services to the bridge will no longer meet shipping’s efficiency, business or regulatory goals. Such meteorological information serves its purpose for blue-water weather routing, but the increasing availability of broadband at sea is paving the way for innovation capable of bringing greater benefits to ship managers and crew. As a result, high-resolution oceanographic data are now being added to ECDIS and voyage-optimisation platforms to help reduce fleet operational expenses and meet Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) goals, writes maritime journalist Wendy Laursen.
