Benefits of shore power connections

EMISSION CONTROL The terms ”shore power”, ”cold ironing” and “HVSC” (high voltage shore connection) all refer to the same maritime industry practice: connecting ships to an onshore power network when in port to allow them to stop their generator sets. Shore power has been attracting a lot of attention of late as a way to reduce berthed ships’ air pollutant emissions, as Rainer Plambeck of Hamburg-based Christian Bindemann Marine Consulting explains in the following article.
