MARINE MINING To sustain economic growth and meet increased demand for metals in the face of dwindling supply on land, the seafloor needs to be explored for mineral resources along with oil and gas. France-based subsea and offshore engineering specialist Technip undertakes large and complex projects on an integrated or segmented basis in difficult environments. The following article by Julien Denegre, Technip’s business development manager for mining and metals, reprises his presentation at Ship&Offshore’s inaugural Business Offshore Conference in 2011 and describes some technical and commercial aspects of deep-sea mining projects.
