Advanced VFD technology for deep water anchoring

June 2010 | Alexander Nürnberg

ELECTRIC DRIVES Advanced Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) technology has been successfully developed and has proven its suitability in anchor handling and long-distance towing. Electric winch drives require up to 30% less installed power compared with conventional hydraulic drives, less space is required for installation and the variable frequency drives allow intake of substantial reverse power. VFD systems for large AHT winches, called ECO-Pull, have been developed by HATLAPA.
