PROPULSION ENGINES At this year’s shipbuilding, machinery and marine technology international trade fair (SMM) engine manufacturers presented a variety of measures to reduce emissions and to comply with IMO Tier II and even the more stringent Tier III requirements. Commercial and ecological aspects such as fuel efficiency and increasingly also the possible usage of LNG as well as the adaption of after treatment systems of exhaust gas have been taken into consideration by the engine suppliers within their research and development activities. The following table comprises an overview of the diesel engine units for maritime propulsion applications currently available on the global market.
