HP turbocharging and valve control as Miller Enablers

April 2010 | Editor

EMISSION CONTROL In engine builder’s preparations for compliance with the limitations on oxides of nitrogen (NOx) prescribed by IMO Tier III in Emissions Control Areas (ECAs), the Miller Cycle has come to prominence. Via its enabling technologies, this ingenious way of cooling an engine’s charge air to eliminate the combustion temperature peaks responsible for over 90% of NOx formation is also associated with potential for considerable increases in fuel efficiency and power density.
