Study assesses nuclear potential
A study undertaken by classification society, ABS, and California-based marine engineering consultancy, Herbert Engineering Corp. (HEC), examined the impact of deploying advanced modern nuclear reactors for the propulsion of a 14,000 TEU container ship and a Suezmax tanker of 157,000dwt. The purpose of the study was to assess the feasibility, safety, and economic implications of using nuclear power in future zero-carbon marine development projects. For the container ship, experts from the two organisations and leading nuclear reactor developers modelled the impact of two, lead-cooled, 30-MW fast reactors....
