Many seafarers still on ‘ballast water learning curve’
Ballast water regulations may have been on the cards for more than a decade, but many systems and their technologies are still relatively new for many seafarers. With a final installation date of September 8th next year, crew training is now essential, according to Norwegian ballast water system maker, Optimarin. The company insists that crew training is vital, both to understand the workings of a ballast water treatment system (BWTS), and to ensure the smooth-running of ballasting operations.
