Big batteries to power Finnish research vessel
Hybrid propulsion | An ice-strengthened research vessel, Aranda , is to be re-engined with a 3-MW hybrid system incorporating powerful new batteries supplied by Finnish technology company Protacon. The multi-disciplinary vessel, owned by the Finnish Environment Institute and capable of undertaking marine research projects all year round, will have its propulsion system reconfigured at Rauma Marine Constructions and will become the first vessel in Finland to deploy the new battery technology.
