Methanol retrofits for eleven Maersk boxships
A.P. Møller – Maersk has signed a contract with MAN Primeserv to adapt the main engines of eleven container ships to run on methanol as fuel. The engine firm’s after-sales division will convert the existing MAN B&W 8G95ME-C9.5 prime movers into dual-fuel MAN B&W 8G95ME-LGIM10.5 engines operating on methanol or fuel oil. The engines will be based on the company’s proven ME-series, of which around 8,500 units are currently in operation.
