Tug firm adopts new hull coating to cut underwater noise
Kotug Canada, a towage and marine services company, has applied a new non-toxic, noise-reducing hull coating developed by Graphite Innovation and Technologies (GIT) to the K.J. Gardner , an anchor-handling tug built in 2009. The GIT coating, XGIT-URN, helps reduce underwater noise and hull vibrations that disturb marine life. Aquatic life including mammals such as the endangered Southern Resident Killer Whale are present in the region where the tug company’s vessels operate.
