Ship designer receives first 3D model-based class approval

Damen Engineering, Bureau Veritas and maritime software provider, Napa, have completed and approved the design of a 2,500m3 dredger using 3D models instead of 2D drawings. The finalisation of this project will enable Damen to apply the process to further designs, including hopper dredgers of 1,000m3 and 4,000m3. The new design technique has a range of benefits, according to the project partners. By using Napa Designer’s neutral OCX file format software, Damen and the classification society were able both to work on the same 3D model throughout the design and review process....
