Maritime community and journalism lose unique spirit
Obituary | The maritime world is poorer by one outstanding character: Alan Thorpe, publisher and editor of the UK-based trade periodicals Ship and Offshore Repair Journal, Port Engineering Management and Ship Repair Newsletter passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on October 13th. He leaves behind a massive gap – not only was he the most knowledgeable and experienced “maritime journo”, but he was a caring and loving husband, dad, granddad and – a good friend. Alan began his maritime career at a young age: at 15 years old, he went to the King Edward VII Nautical College in Stepney, London; in 1975, at the age of 26, he embarked on the journalism pathway as technical editor of Shipping World & Shipbuilder....
