ISO 19030 needs to be widely adopted

July 2017 | Editor

Coatings | Akzo Nobel’s marine coatings subsidiary, International Paint (IP), is promoting the adoption of ISO 19030, the new voluntary standard for hull and propeller performance measurement, through an industry engagement programme. This will involve simplifying the complexities of ISO 19030 and explaining its principles and values to customers. The new standard – ISO 19030 Ships and Marine Technology - Measurement of changes in hull and propeller performance – took three years to develop by an industry grouping comprising coating and propeller manufacturers, ship operators, data analysts and academics. The standard was finalised in 2016.
