Joined forces to target the maritime battery market

energy storage | Germany’s Akasol, a lithium-ion battery manufacturer, and Zem, a Norwegian firm specialising in maritime battery applications, have pooled their resources to work together in the development of Akazem, a modular battery system, to capitalise on growing interest in energy storage amongst owners and operators of smaller vessels including workboats, fishing vessels and small passenger ferries. Akazem is an autonomous IP 67-compliant liquid-cooled modular system that can be combined in a “lego-like” way to meet smaller vessels’ space and power requirements. Akazem covers a power range up to 2C. The IP rating means that the batteries are completely protected from dust ingress and protected from immersion in liquids at depths of up to one metre.
