Latest energy-saving components for ultra-large container ships and freight RoRos

ABB | Power and automation company ABB is to provide turbochargers for eleven of the world’s largest container ships, and shaft generators and turbochargers for up to six latest generation freight ferries. All of the vessels will be built in China for Cosco Shipping Lines and DFDS, respectively. The first of the eleven container ships, the 20,110-TEU Cosco Shipping Taurus , was launched in June and will have turbochargers installed to provide extra power for its main engine and auxiliaries. Three A180-L two-stroke turbochargers will boost main engine output while the ship’s four auxiliaries will each have a four-stroke TPL67-C unit which ABB says is its most popular installation
