Reliable thermal insulation for fuel tanks

July 2017 | Editor

LNG storage | With the further tightening of emissions regulations in international shipping and the ever-more-widespread use of LNG as a fuel, safe technologies for the storage of liquefied natural gas (LNG) are becoming more and more important. Maritime engineers have to ensure effective thermal insulation between the LNG fuel tanks and the ship’s structure. With Lignostone® cryogenic laminated densified wood, Germany’s Röchling Engineering Plastics SE & Co KG offers a material with outstanding qualities for the insulation of LNG tanks. The material Lignostone® cryogenic is a laminated densified wood which has proven effective in international shipping for decades. It is used as low-temperature insulation in large tankers which carry liquefied gas. The material insulates the vast storage tanks holding up to 165,000m3 from the ship’s hull and is approved by all major classification societies.
