Forecasting the future: How weather routing is unlocking shipping’s data revolution

Efficiency Optimal use of weather data can help owners reduce exposure to extreme conditions, avoid delays and save fuel, writes Lennart Cederberg of GAC-SMHI Weather Solutions, an alliance of GAC Group, a global provider of integrated shipping, logistics and marine services, and the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute Weather routing software accesses and analyses prevailing and forecast sea conditions as well as an individual ship’s characteristics, cargo and destination, to create an optimum track for an ocean voyage.
