Safe manoeuvring

May 2017 | Editor

Energy chains Extendable propulsion units are being used more and more frequently on tugboats, ferries and offshore support ships, for example. Dynamic positioning on the high sea can be carried out quickly and easily by a retractable thruster. Robust energy chains help guide the motor cables safely and easily during such manoeuvres. In cramped installation spaces such as in the hull of a ship, highly flexible chainflex cables with DNV-GL certification demonstrate their clear advantages, writes Tim Schneebeck department manager Maritime at igus, a leading international manufacturer of energy chain systems and polymer plain bearings.
