May 2017 | Editor

SAAM Smit Towage | Wilson Sons Estaleiros Ltda, the Brazilian shipbuilding subsidiary of Bermuda-based Wilson Sons, has won a contract to build two azimuth tugboats for Saam Smit Towage do Brasil SA, bringing the shipbuilder’s orderbook to six vessels – four for Saam Smit and two for Wilson Sons Towage. The 24m-long tugs, with a beam of 11m, will have a bollard pull of 70 tonnes and will be built to a design by Damen Gorinchem Shipyards, a company with which Wilson Sons in Brazil has worked closely for some 20 years. The vessels are due for delivery approximately 20 months after payment of the first instalments.
