Damen to buy Verolme yard

May 2017 | Editor

Rotterdam | Damen Shipyards Group is further strengthening its ship service and repair business with the acquisition of the Verolme shipyard in the Botlek area of the Port of Rotterdam from Keppel Offshore & Marine. Current plans envisage that the transaction will be completed by the end of June. The Verolme facility has three graving docks including one of the largest in Europe enabling the Netherlands-based shipyard and repair group to undertake repairs and upgrades of semi-submersibles and jack-up rigs. The Botlek facility also has 1.8km of quay and a workforce of 250 personnel which Damen intends to retain. The acquisition will mean that the shipyard group controls four large repair yards in the vicinity of Rotterdam. The two Rotterdam yards, Verolme Botlek and Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam, will work closely with other facilities in Vlissingen and Amsterdam.
