Connecting the world

May 2017 | Kathrin Lau

Every second year, the great and the good of global shipping gather for the Nor-Shipping exhibition – to share expertise, present new products and discuss current and future trends. And while organisers expect around the same numbers of exhibitors and visitors and an equal level of attention as in 2015, the situation in Norway remains most challenging. In its Maritime Outlook Report 2017, the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association notes that the country’s shipowners expect a decline in turnover of 10% this year, which would mean that the collective turnover would be NOK 210 billion (EUR 22.2 billion), down from NOK 279 billion in 2015. In January, Norwegian owners trading international waters had 72 vessels on order, a decline of 50% in number of ships and 45% in value compared with 2016.
