Project to develop Europe’s first LNG-fuelled dredger
A steel cutting ceremony undertaken recently at Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque marked the start of a project to convert the trailing suction hopper dredger, Samuel de Champlain , from diesel-electric propulsion to a dual-fuel system based on marine gas oil and LNG. The steel cutting marked the first step of the fabrication of a new section of hull that will hold generators and other equipment. A new block is also under construction at the Damen yard ready for the new engines and this structure is due to be installed when the dredger goes into drydock later this year....
