Composite components are key
Germany’s Piening Propeller, which has designed the Piening Controllable Propeller (PCP), claims that the use of composite components in all highly stressed bearings is key to its strategy of saving cost and enabling green shipping. “Thus, reconditioning of hubs and blade carriers is not required, you only have to replace components. You no longer need to remove the hub completely to undertake service works.
