LPG dual-fuel engine development
MAN Diesel & Turbo and Hyundai Heavy Industries Engine & Machinery Division have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop and produce MAN B&W ME-LGIP dual-fuel two-stroke engines capable of operating on liquid petroleum gas. This could be a very appealing choice for LPG carrier operators who face the challenge of IMO sulphur compliance in little more than 18 months’ time. From January 2020, IMO regulations will impose a 0.5% limit on the sulphur content in marine fuel. Now, partly as a result of enquiries from LPG carrier operators, the two companies will focus on developing an engine that could use a small amount of the LPG shipped on board as cargo, in a similar way to the use of boil-off gas in dual-fuel engines installed on LNG carriers....
