UN body adopts climate change strategy for shipping

The United Nations International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) recently held its 72nd session in London. More than 100 IMO member states participated in the session, in which an initial strategy on the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ships, setting out a vision to reduce GHG emissions from international shipping and phase them out as soon as possible, was adopted. In absolute terms, a total annual reduction of CO2 emissions of at least 50% by 2050 compared with the 2008 level is envisaged....
