Upgraded engine with “best power-to-weight ratio”
Finnish technology group Wärtsilä has launched a new version of its Wärtsilä 20 diesel engine with a hike of almost 20% in power output. The increase – from 185 kW per cylinder to 220 kW – means that fewer cylinders are required for a given power output resulting in lighter and more compact generating sets in the 1.3 MW to 2 MW merchant auxiliary range. Greater power density will enable vessels to ship more weight and/or operate at higher speeds, with minimal impact on fuel consumption, the company says....
