The invisible threat

Cyber-attacks are perceived as a global risk of the very highest concern to business leaders in advanced economies, the maritime industry being no exception. Last year’s hacker attack on Maersk, for example, has cost the Danish shipping company up to USD 300 million. Not only is ransomware such as NotPetya and Wannacry a major problem, but tools to manipulate GPS data can be bought in every electronics store and it takes only basic knowledge to put them together. There are multiple options to hack into onboard systems, to take over control of essential equipment or re-route vessels and their cargoes....
