Better bridge ergonomics

March 2017 | Editor

A second generation of larger maritime panel computers from Norway’s Hatteland Display AS is now available for a wide range of applications. The four new sizes in the Series X Panel Computers portfolio integrate powerful Intel Skylake processor-based computers, high-quality display technology and advanced video processing. Hatteland claims that the Series X range now offers the most powerful all-in-one computer/display systems for technology manufacturers and systems integrators in the maritime field. The new large-format 24-, 26- and 27-inch configurations are particularly suitable for integrated bridge systems developed to enable a more data-centric approach to ship navigation and safety. Power computers integrated in the display housing provide more flexibility for bridge designers, according to Hatteland, improving ergonomics and making installation more efficient through significantly reduced cabling. There are other potential cost savings, the company claims, for equipment manufacturers and system integrators. The Series X range provides the same power and picture quality as a standard display with a separate PC configuration, but costs less, both to buy and to install. “This makes it possible for technology integrators to continue improving vital bridge applications while still retaining focus on cost for their partners and end-customers,” Hatteland said in a statement. “Our latest panel computers are our most advanced to date. They harness the power of Intel’s tried and tested Skylake processors, providing a cost-effective platform for innovators to develop new solutions that make controlling ships and the technology on board, easier, safer and more efficient.”
