March 2017 | Editor

Stavanger-based Global Maritime Consultancy & Engineering has just completed a suitability survey on the world’s second largest semi-sub mersible heavy transport vessel (SSHTV), Xin Guang Hua , prior to its maiden voyage from China to the Arabian Gulf. The survey embraced all aspects of the Cosco Shipping-owned unit to ensure that it meets the requirements of its charterer on the Upper Zakum oilfield, off the coast of Abu Dhabi, where Global Maritime is retained as Marine Warranty Surveyor. The Guangzhou Shipyard-built vessel is 255m long, 68m wide and has a lift/transportation capacity of 98,000 tonnes. Its large open deck has a length of 208.4m, a breadth of 68m, and can be submerged by up to 16m, enabling the transport of large floating structures. The unit has a diesel-electric propulsion system with a power output of 10.5 MW.
