Record-breaking passenger numbers

In 2016, the Port of Helsinki achieved excellent numbers for passengers and cargo traffic, Kimmo Mäki, managing director of Port of Helsinki Ltd said recently. According to port statistics, the number of passengers has increased steadily since 2008, and a similar trend is evident in cargo volumes. This was the third consecutive year of growth in total cargo traffic and unitised cargo. During 2016, a total of 11.56 million ship passengers passed through the Port of Helsinki, an increase of 3.1% on the previous year. A total of 8.74 million passengers (+4.0%) passed between Tallinn and Helsinki, and 2.34 million (-0.7%) between Stockholm and Helsinki. Almost 76% of all passengers passing through the Port of Helsinki travelled between Tallinn and Helsinki. There was a total of 408,900 (-6.3%) cruise passengers during the cruise season.
