March 2017 | Editor

Seattle-based Harley Marine Services Inc has named the first tractor tugboat to meet Environmental Protection Agency Tier IV environmental standards in the US. The 36.6m-long Earl W. Redd , built at the Diversified Marine Inc shipyard in Portland, Oregon, is the first of seven such vessels designed by Jensen Maritime, a firm of naval architects and marine engineers owned by Crowley Maritime Corporation. The tugboat has Rolls-Royce US 255-P30-FP Z-drive propulsion, two Caterpillar 3516E diesel engines with a rated output of 5,000hp, and two 125kW-hour John Deere generator sets.
